"Pirate Light" tells a weekend in-the-life of Jack, a young American musician in Paris. With the aim of capturing the Anglo-phone community in Paris, "Pirate Lights" is a story of heartbreak, artistry, hardship, nostalgia and the friends that keep us together at the end of the day.
Jack - Mid 20s, American, white. Jack's a normal American guy and the hero of "Pirate Lights"; he's gentle, sensitive, subtly ambitious and gets through life with the help of his friends. We find Jack in "Pirate Lights" at the end of his masters degree in French literature at the Sorbonne. Now as this chapter is coming to a close, he's wondering what's next? In addition to this, his French girlfriend, Nathalie, has just left him, leaving him in despair and confusion. This is his critical emotional struggle in the film.
Elliot - Mod 20s, English, Blonde. Elliot is your over the top, archetypical manly man. He's a writer, but never seems to be getting and writing done. When he ought to be writing he's consuming himself with alcohol, women, fighting, or a combination of the three. Always in for a good laugh, full of life, and energy, Elliot is a loose canon but the most down to earth friend.
Ray - American, early to mid 40s, Brunette, white. Ray is the American guy you'd imagine living in Paris. Coming to Paris with visions of the lost generation, he's a poet, lover, and alcoholic. In public, he comes across as unkempt and could be mistaken for homeless. He wears dirty, worn-out professors like clothing, a true Parisian chameleon.
Judith - French, late 20s, Brunette. Of all the characters in "Pirate Lights", Jude has it most together. She attended two painting schools, one in the south of France and the other in Paris. She works at an art gallery and, when she can, does set design for low-budget films. Jude is calm, cool, and collected, yet deeply hedonistic; she does in life what brings her the most pleasure, be it sex, smoking, or painting.
Albert - French, late 50s, early 60s, bearded. Albert is down on his luck, he was kicked out of his apartment a month prior to his appearance in the film. He approaches Jack in a park to ask for money, only to fall over. He's kind and humbled by his situation; always thinking of better days.
"Hamlet Boy" - Danish, Blond hair, mid 20s. "Hamlet Boy" makes two appearances in the film, once in a story dictated by Elliot and then at the end, both in which involve him being beat up. The first case is because he was arrogantly specific about his beer preferences and the second instance when he "steals" the girlfriend of one of the secondary characters Ray.
Annika - Czech, blonde hair, early 20s. Annika, like "Hamelt Boy" makes two appearances in "Pirate Lights". She is the recently former lover of Ray, and new girlfriend of "Hamlet boy". Sweet and naïve, Annika is a gentle flower who means no harm to anyone.
